I can't believe that it has been a whole month since I wrote anything here.

We had a great visit from Lela, even if it was only for 4 days. We managed to get to both San Francisco and Monterey. While in Monterey we went on 17 Mile Drive. I hadn't done that in quite a few years. Becky, Jason, and Kym were able to make the trip with us too. We had fun, although it did rain a little off and on.

I had a good Mother's Day. Kym's boyfriend's parents invited us to a potluck dinner at their house. We went and enjoyed ourselves. They are nice people.

Becky is working full time for Century Theaters (the same company as Kym). She likes her job. Jason is working a temporary full time job at a video game software company. He gets paid to play video games all day long. He tests the new games that are not yet on the market. He loves his job (except for the commute, which is 1 to 1 1/2 hours each way.

Jim came home from work sick yesterday. He stayed home again today but is planning to return to work tomorrow. I hope that he hasn't shared it with the rest of the family. Even though he was home, he still sat here at his work computer and worked. He also participated in a few conference calls from home this morning. Not much of a day off. At least he could rest whenever necessary.

We certainly enjoyed having Mom and Walt here for a few days. I wish that we lived closer together.

Kym and I put Mom to work sewing while she was here. Kym's friend, Sarema, is getting married in June and I agreed to make 4 bridesmaid dresses. We started on them last Friday and Mom was here, so we put her to work too. She even brought her own sewing machine. Sarema, Kym, Mom, and I had fun that day. We completed one dress from start to finish. Before Mom left she almost finished another one. Kym, Sarema, and I will have another marathon day tomorrow to try to get the other two finished. It is and easy pattern and the first two fit the girls beautifully.

Walt kept himself busy doing my yard work for me. He hates to just sit around. My front yard looks especially great. He also rescreened two windows upstairs for me... a very hand guy to have around!

We love to have them visit (and not just to make them work!! tee hee) ;-)

We have been enjoying having Becky and Jason home. I'm sure it is weird for them to be living here with us. So far it has been working out just fine from my point of view. I hope they feel comfortable treating this like their own home. Alan fixed up the internet so that Jason has access from his own computer in their bedroom. I also offered them the use of my TV, video player, & DVD player from my sewing room. We finally moved the setup into their room tonight. They are welcome to stay as long as necessary.

P.S. Becky is almost back to 100% from her surgery. :-)

Well, we have certainly had an exciting couple of weeks.

Last Tues. we received word that Becky was in the hospital. She was vomiting, had a fever of 103.7, and had severe abdominal pain. The military hospital couldn't decide what was wrong with her. She just kept getting worse and worse, so by Wed. night they decided she needed a exploritory laporoscomy to see what was wrong in the abdominal cavity. Their operating room and personel were busy, so they transfered her to the local civilian hospital. As soon as she arrived there they said that she had appendicitis and took her straight into surgery. When they opened her up they discovered that her appendix had ruptured already. It was a very serious situation for a while, but she is fine now and home from the hospital since Tuesday. I can't figure out why the first hospital didn't know what was wrong, and allowed the appendix to burst while she was there. She went through almost 2 days of agony because of it. We took our plane and flew to Oklahoma to be with her. We left before she was moved to the second hospital. By the time we arrived the surgery was completed. We stayed until Sunday and she was out of any danger. On athe way home we stopped in LA and spent the evening and overnight with Mom and Walt. I spoke to Becky again today. They finally stitched her incision closed today. Whew!!

Becky's husband, Jason, was officially discharged from the army this week. He has served for 8 years. The movers are scheduled to pack them on the 25th of this month. They will be moving here to California. We are very excited to be having them live here and Jason's mom is sad. Jason is from Ohio and his family lives there.

Well, on to happy things. Our remodled shower is complete except for the shower doors. It is such a relief to have it finished. We were very lucky in our choice of contractors. He does quality work in a timely reliable manner. I have painted the primer coat in there and purchased the colored paint. It is such a small space I will be able complete the painting tomorrow morning. The new paint makes the attached bedroom look shabby, so I will soon paint it too. It always seems that one thing leads to another. It is a good thing to happen though.

Hello everybody. I've been reading your messages but haven't written. I'm happy everyone is using this. All is well in Maine. The weather has warmed up considerably and it is in the upper 30's right now. It had been in the 40's but dropped for a while. The snow is almost all melted off, and that is very early for here. The flowers are starting to grow out of the ground. Very early. It sure seems like spring.

Chad started 6th grade camp Monday, it is for 3 days and 2 nights. He called Sunday all excited about that. He's smuggling candy to camp in his coat lining. What a character! He finally got to fly the airplane I got him and it works good. He only had to climb two trees so far.

Steven is still in school and looking for a job. He has his truck licensed again but no insurance yet.

Take care and I love you all!

We went to visit Mom and Walt on Friday and came home on Sunday. It was fun. That was the first time either of us had been to Quartzite, Arizona. We flew into Blythe, CA, which is the closest airport. The only problem was the wind. We had to delay departure on Friday because of the wind warnings in Blythe. It was very windy on Sat too, but was calm when we came home on Sunday.

Walt has a very nice moble home there. Jim and Walt went 4-wheeling while Mom and I went shopping. Most of the vendors have packed up and gone for the season. Next year I hope we make it during the peak season in the middle of January. Walt said Jim was like a pro on the 4-wheeler. Jim had fun doing it and came back covered in dust, since he was behind Walt most if the time.

Our shower is complete except for the glass door. It will take a couple of weeks to get the custom door. All that is left to do is paint the walls. I think I will go buy the paint tonight and paint first thing in the morning. We re-used the toilet but bought all new fixtures. I didn't want a new toilet because ours is not a water saving toilet. It flushes better than the new ones. The bathroom looks beautiful. I would like to replace the sink now. It is very worn. Next to the new bathroom, the sink looks even worse. The whole bedroom needs painting too.

Not much has happened this week except the progress on our new shower!! Construction is finished and the tile job is well under way. It is beautiful. I am happy with the choices I made. I've been busy dreaming about ways to remodel the kitchen too. That will be the next indoor project. Before we do the kitchen though we want to finish the landscaping in the back yard. The patio has been a joy this winter and will be even more wonderful this summer. I have been looking at patio furniture too. We have NONE... well, some cheap folding chairs that don't count.

Gotta go. Love to all.

We had a great time visiting Mom & Walt last weekend. I hadn't seen Mom for quite a while. She has her place fixed up very nicely. New carpet, new couch, patio paver addition, new curtains, new table and chairs in the kitchen... We were supposed to fly home on Sunday afternoon, but the SantaAna winds were way to strong to allow for a safe take off, so we stayed until Monday morning. I was actually glad to have the extra time visiting. We went to a movie and dinner Sunday night and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly..

This last week we started construction on our master bath shower. We had removed the tile shower almost 2 !!! years ago because it was leaking badly. Now we have finally hired someone to rebuild it. We kept procrastinating because we (meaning I) could not really decide what we wanted to do with the space - enlarge, reconfigure, ??. In the end we are keeping the configuration of the room the same. We are adding a shower seat, and recessed shelf though. We are also getting the modern frameless hinged glass doors instead of our old fashioned sliding glass doors. Of course the tile will be quite different too. I am really excited to see the progress and will be even more excited to have a shower in our room again. It will be beautiful.

Last weekend we were supposed to go to visit Mom & Walt in Quartsite, AZ, but it didn't work out. Again! I was very disappointed that we couldn't go. We are going to go to visit them in Aguanga this weekend -- barring another problem. Yesterday I was begining to doubt the trip again because it rained all day. The news gives a forcast of a sunny weekend though. Whew! We tried to make it for the whole month of January and didn't manage to get there. Things look good for this weekend. Yea!

Alan will be staying home to work and babysit the 3 (!!!) dogs. We have our silkie terrier, Keeper; Kym's cocker spaniel, Suzi; and Becky's very large mix, Jedi. We often babysit Suzi on the weekends because Kym works such long hours at the theater. Suzi cannot stay in Kym's condo for 10-12 hours without potty breaks. Jedi arrived last Monday. Becky and an ex-boyfriend got Jedi when they were dating several years ago. Mark (the ex) kept custody of the dog. He recently moved into an apartment and can no longer keep Jedi. Since Becky and Jason are in Oklahoma, it was here or the pound for Jedi. He is a good dog -- just large and exuberant. Seven pound Keeper and 85 lb(?) Jedi are quite a pair. Jedi wants to play and keeper is afraid of him because he moves so very fast. They will get used to each other, I'm sure. Jedi loves people and other dogs. We need to work on his obedience training. "Come" is not in his vocabulary.

So far the visit from Lela has been great. I took Monday and Tuesday off work. Monday the two of us drove down to Monterey and Carmel. We had a fabulous time visiting the Carmel mission and shopping and eating. The weather was perfect. Yesterday we went to San Francisco. After parking near the wharf we found a fabulous "art glass" shop on our way to catch the cable car. Lela bought a very beautiful paperweight to add to their glass collection. After taking the cable car into downtown we visited the 7 story shopping mall on Market street. We had a great lunch on the 6th floor Nordstrom's department store cafe. The view was wonderful too. I always appreciate an excuse to visit the City.

Love, Donna

Lela's plane was late on Tuesday evening, but she got here safely. After I picked her up we stopped at Kym's for a late dinner. We are enjoying having Lela here for a while. So far we haven't really done anything except watch movies at home. Since I work afternoons it makes it hard to do anything. In the morning there is not enough time once breakfast is over (which seems to take forever). When I get home it is dinner and that's all. I have tomorrow off so we'll probably go visit Kym's new theater.

Yesterday Alan signed up for some college classes. Yea!

Hi all,

We just got back from our friend's (the Feldmans) 3 yr old's birthday party. A few hours of that many 3 year olds is enough for one day. It was fun watching the kids interact though. Jim got home from Boston last night. He was there 4 days (only long enough to get acustomed to the time) so today he is beat.

Tuesday Lela is coming for a visit. We will be happy to have her here again. I will try to take a couple of days off work so we can have some outings. If all goes as planned we will go visit my Mom & Walt in Quartzite next weekend too. The weather is the big IF. This weekend would have been perfect if Jim hadn't been gone all last week. I have never been to Quartzite before so it will be fun.

Hello everyone, Read things yesterday but the site wouldn't let me post. I'm happy things are going good for everyone. It snowed last night about 1/2 inch but the roads are all clear. Becky, I hope the PD job works out for Jason. That would be real nice to be back in familiar territory. :o) Oh yeah, Kate is Marcia's oldest daughter she is 19. Kristen will be 16 on the 20th of Jan. Both are good kids.

Jim called last night from Massachusetts. Too bad he has to work the whole time. It would be nice to see him. It was great to talk on the phone though.

I'll write later..

Bill
